Hi.
I am using a Toshiba Satellite Pro laptop with Vista home basic OS. We have a BT Home Hub that I’ve been connected to with the “Realtek RTL8187B Wireless 802. 11g 54Mbps USB 2. 0 Network Adapter” installed in the laptop. My wireless connection has been running fine for a few months but has suddenly had problems and can connect to the Home Hub, but only with “Limited connectivity”. When I look at the Network Diagnostic thing the laptop seems to have trouble identifying the network and getting IP settings for it.
My laptop can connect properly to any other connections with internet, this only happens with the Home Hub.
We also have a desktop PC on XP that connects to this same connection and works just fine.
I have tried repairing the connection and inputting the WEP key into the settings with no luck. I have also tried different settings with my Firewall and connection settings. (I’ve heard sometimes running IPv6 can cause problems but that hasn’t helped either)
Thanks.
Also, I’ve done the simple stuff like resetting the computer and switching my laptop and Router off. :S I turned both off for a whole night to see if it would work the next morning. No luck still.
I’ve had this problem for a few days and this is like a last resort. Contacting BT is almost hopeless because of the ridiculous wait times on the help line.
It gives me a huge bill as I’ve seen from past problems before.
Also I’m not sure it’s the router outright. As I said our desktop PC works with it, but our laptop doesn’t.
I’ve done some research into this problem and it looks like a problem with the way that Vista has been coded. Not many people can find an answer. Does this mean there’ll never be a good connection with Vista, as long as Microsoft refuses to accept that there is a problem?
I fixed the problem myself.
I basically disabled the DCHP (something) Broadcast Flag and re-installed my wireless card drivers. This has seemed to fix the problem, as well as re-enabling IPv6 on the connection.
It seems there’s different answers for different computers with the same problem, but if you get this problem, try anything and everything. I suggest:

This article might help. {GUID} is just the code for the registry entry in the Brackets, the word GUID won’t actually appear, incase any of you get stuck with that.
It seems this is a rather widespread problem with Vista laptops, so I’ll have to watch out. Thanks to anyone who tried to help me out.
