i have recently formatted my dell inspiron notebook n installed a fresh copy of win XP which is the official copy i have on my desktop pc. i have used this copy of windows for a number of diff installs but this time its asking for a password at the welcome screen. i have tried everything, repairing installation, ctrl alt del, control userpasswords2, changing the way users logon, deleting accounts, and creating new ones, but i’m still locked out and getting the same message to contact system admin, which was me and has been disabled. i d/l a copy of ERD commander which got me onto the desktop but when i tried again without the disc, booting from the hdd installation that it had just removed the password from (using locksmith), i was locked out again. now i have a laptop i cant get into, despite trying everything i can think of. and my drive isnt registering my official copy of xp since i ran my burnt ERD , so i cant even reinstall a fresh copy of xp. anyone have any ideas of what to do?

Reloading windows problem. ?

I have been having problems with my PC for ages. General errors and problems starting up, no viruses. I decided to reload factory settings which I have done a few times before with no problems. This time however it will not get further than the please wait screen you get when you start up for the first time. Anybody have any ideas why? Buying a new PC is not an option unfortunately! I have tried reloading it a few times and repairing boot sectors then I just get c: on the screen no idea what to do then. Would buying a copy of XP which is the operating system I have now help or is it not a software problem?

I have an iPod classic 6th Gen.
I’ve tried reformatting it a number of times, i’ve tried using alternatives to itunes (my ipod freezes all of them), i’ve tried it on different computers (both PC and Mac) and it does the same thing on all of them.

Also, when i run iPod diagnostics, it doesn’t have the option to scan the HD, which apparently it should have.

Any ideas? or do i need a repair?

Thanks!
. . . i should add that i’m not loaded
thanks guys, but it’s not a computor issue. . . it managed to crash the computors in the apple store aswell :D
and i’m out of warentee. . and they told me on the phone that repair would cost £90. . . replacements arn’t far off that!

i just hoped it was an issue i could sort out :)

Windows XP Professional key doesn’t work (invalid)?

Hi,

I recently had a problem with a computer with XP Pro installed. I sent in the computer to a repair shop and they rang me up later saying they needed to reinstall windows. I didn’t give them my install disc so they said they would use their own.

Once I got my PC back I tried to activate windows using my product key, but the wizard says it is invalid.

My PC originally had counterfeit windows on it (I was unaware of this for over a year), so I had to purchase a copy off microsofts website. It was a genuine advantage kit. I am trying to use this key to activate windows.

After some research I have a suspicion that perhaps the shop used an OEM windows CD and so my key doesn’t work.

I really don’t want to pay for another reinstall of windows, nor do I want to reinstall all my programs AGAIN. How can I activate my copy of windows without a reinstall.

In case it matters, my retail CD has SP2 installed on it while my computer has been installed with a CD with SP3 on it.

Thanks.

Windows 7 System Restore not working properly…?

Well. The other night I downloaded that stupid f’ing Virutagirl thing. I found a version of VG2 and installed and then uninstalled it. I then found an installer that I had downloaded from the official site of the HD version about a year ago. Anyway. I went to uninstall it and despite it (the HD one) disappearing from the program list, it was still on my pc. That version also said something about needing an update and it won’t work unless I update it. Anylway,I uninstalled it using the uninstall. exe which seemed to do the trick. I then decided to do a system restore to try and rid it completely, but it hung on the initialising screen (the one before it says shutting down)I held in the power button to turn it off. I then turned it on and pressed F8 and clicked on repair your computer and tries to restore it from there. I left it for 4 hours, but it just said restoring files. So no I don’t know what to do to make it work again. I tried a full scan with MSE but all it found was some sort of Java vulnerability. Is there anything I can do? My PC didn’t come with restore discs, and I’m not too sure making new ones now would be a good idea. Please help me. How can I make system restore work again? And for the record, I have a Sony Vaio VPCEC1M1E with Win 7 HP

trouble installing windows xp! just restarts instead of installing after formatting, does this over and over?

ok, so heres the script, randomly my computer decided it wouldnt start up. it would ask if i wanted to run in safe mode, i tried, aswell as all other options, and it would just restart and come up with these options again. this went on for days, nothin would work. so i have 2 hard drives, and i removed the offending one. i then tried to install windows onto the remaining one, thie first time i went to do this all was goin well untill it couldnt get certain files from the disk, since it wasnt in the best condition, half way thru it failed cause the disk was just too scratched. then it restarted, leaving windows half installed. i then made a new disk to use, and tried again but when i did it came up sayin i already have windows installed, so i reformatted the drive, but whenever its finished and then when i try to install windows it still says i already have an operating system, which i shouldnt! ive tried refortmatting it many times, and this still happens. even if i chose to install windows anyway without reformatting it still goes thru the screen that prepares to install windows and gets all the files from the disk, but then once thats done and should take me to the setup page like it normally does it goes back to the begining.

im on my dads laptop right now and ive been tryin to fix my pc for about a week now and i cant afford to take it to a repair store at the momment, and id rather figure out how to do it myself anyway. its windows xp professional im trying to install.

anyone had similar problems? how can i fix this? please help!

ive tried a few different instalation disks to make sure its not the cd, which it isnt

as for the hard drive i removed, it wont even let me format it or install windows, it just goes to the safe mode option screen when i put have the disk in, then restarts like it did before.

im doing everything right, ive reinstalled windows xp many times and its never done anything like this.
with the original hard drive, its nothing to do with not selecting them quick enough, no matter which option i choose it comes up with all this shit then restarts and does the same, ive tried like 50 times and it seriously wont work, wont even let me format it.

I messed about with some dll files and lost some of the vital system32 files and now my pc wont boot without them, ive had to whack in my recovery cd and boot from that, in the installation menu i selected, install windows, then i selected repair it, it then copied all the system files from the cd onto my computer, and now its started installing windows xp, does this mean ive lost all the files on my pc, if i have, im f*cked! as i have all my coursework saved on there! would there be anyway to recover my files etc if they are lost! would the new installation replace the old installation including anywork saved on there without giving you a warning? thankgod i have a laptop too!
Its installing xp now, but only as a repair installation, im just hoping that my previous files, like my coursework (on word) will still be saved, i dont care about anything else, i just need to know that my course work is still there!
didnt use the recovery console as i forgot the admin password so i couldnt go down that route, i just selected install windows, then i selected repair selected installation, then it copied files and then started the windows xp setup, i just hope ive still got my files!
shwaavay – u were right mate it did just replace and repair files and nothing else! 10 points to you mate!

Windows Vista – Wireless Connection IP fault ?

Does any know how to remedy this please?

Fault: My Laptop has lost connection to the Internet

Observations:

The error box in Windows Vista that appears after clicking ‘diagnose’ says the following:

”WIRELESS INTERNET CONNECTION DOES NOT HAVE A VALID IP CONFIGURATION”

Things I’ve tried:

1) I’ve reset (hardware) my BT Total Broadband wireless router – and it still won’t connect to the Internet.

2) I’ve reset (software) in Vista and a pop-up box says ‘repairing’. This simply states ‘failed to repair’, cannot find wireless adapter – and repeats the message: ”WIRELESS INTERNET CONNECTION DOES NOT HAVE A VALID IP CONFIGURATION”

Does anyone know how I get an IP address? It was previously working fine yesterday

The router works find with a wired LAN Cable, so there is no problem with the phone service.

What is strange, is Vista can see the Wireless router, (the password is already saved and it’s set to automatically connect to the Internet). . .

But

When I chose ‘Connect to Wireless Devices’, the PC can ‘see’ my Wireless router – yet still fails to connect.

Thank you for any tips.
