Ok, a couple of days ago my pc started trying to download some kind of fake ‘anti virus’ software, obviously this was something dodgy so I tried stopping it but to no avail. At the minute my anti virus software, Avast, will find the virus but not delete or repair the threat (which after scanning is listed as ‘high’ and a trojan horse), I originally had AVG but it did not get rid of the threat so I un-installed it to try Avast.
I have also tried doing a system restore but this won’t work either.
The Windows security centre will not work, it asks me to start it but a box just appears saying ‘security centre cannot be started’. My pc seems to be running ok but I know there is something lurking in the background!
What should I do, is clearing the whole system and starting again my only option? I would rather not, but these free online security programs don’t seem to be working!

Cannot open I/E or access the internet on my PC. ( using friends laptop) It starts to open and grinds to a halt. It has to go. Then try another browser

on saturday while my girl was on the net she had somehow received a porn pop up (even though pop ups are blocked, and so any porn, nudity and violence are too- which was individually done by myself) she instantly called me and from the time it took for her calling to me getting upstairs it managed to install itself and was starting to hijack windows xp files, i then recieved a warning from windows(which at least i thought it was) telling me what it is and i need to urgently get an anti virus programme that will permenantly remove it from her pc, and to download it now! i clicked on yes and total secure 2repairme up -added with a windows logo) well, ‘trusting windows’ of couse i downloaded it (like a bloody idiot) and when the scan report come back i done the obvious thing and clicked on remove then it told me that i had to register/purchase to remove it but then under the box you place registration key it said that i could type ‘blank’ as registration key and type my email as i was desperate to stop virus from hijacking even further (and still thinking that this was a anti-virus supported by window) i done it ( my pc started freezing, and files were not responding i couldnt even turn it off . Then up popped windows with another warning “the anti-spy software you have purchased who is “repairing” is actually taking information from ALL of your files and they showed me pop ups of what was happening which at that moment was 5 of them saying – the file name,location and at bottem had ‘gathering information from files” i instantly pulled the plug out of the wall then them after a few minutes i turned it back on to use ad-aware but then i had to turn on net quickly updated it and took wireless adapter straight out, then scanned pc but that risk i took updating turnes out to complete pile of shite- it was completely useless as it didn’t even detect it, there was no option of typing in name of virus to give them a chance of finding it, so i then tried attempt number 2- aol- which when i had the computer i was on dail-up and it keeps asking to re-start. well the virus system on that still works, and done a scan and repair i chose for them to completely,permernantly remove it from system, but a little later i was informed that during that process aol virus/spyware was hijacked,now im getting window pop ups saying the virus is making ALL my files currupt, even with the internet disabled . today i turned it on to find ive about 60-70% lost control of the system i cant open most of my daughters school work, shes lost all her school research, i tried to connect the net (she uses belkin wireless) so i could go to windows or microsoft so could find a different virus software-that had 100% proof it was there software) and download it to get them straight away but again control of belkin went out the window with my system, as soon as i searched microsoft windows the signal shut off completely and havent had one since i coulnt even do a restore with windows, i’m trying my hardest to do this without wiping the whole system as i cant re-install windows because i can’t afford a windows licence, i’m trying to raise 5 children and i’ve been told they are expensive, and my daughter needs the pc she was struggling really bad at school and since having the net she’s been doing extra research,and educational programmes to help her spelling, reading, maths etc and myself and the school have seen a massive improvment with grades and even her confidence and i can’t take it away from her. is there a free windows xp/vista download i could put directly onto disk and put onto hwr computer then i can wipe everything and start a-fresh please
