My laptop shuts down without warning, sometimes before I open mail or explorer, sometimes after 5 minutes. I run Vista, no viruses show up after a thorough scan, the only “new” programme I have installed is an Adobe Flash player update. There is plenty of memory available. I have gone into the repair mode (F8) but it shows nothing, does anyone have any ideas? I am running it on Wifi, my PC works fine which I assume eliminates the router. This is a very recent problem and I have no new electrical goods near the laptop which could affect the performance. It is impossible to even read mail in normal mode. The laptop is nearly 3 years old and I always use it on a hard surace. I have taken off the bottom and removed the battery to ensure it?s clean. There wasn?t very much dirt at all (much to my surprise) but it was very hot. I am now running in normal mode so hopefully this is the cause of the problem. I really appreciate you both trying to help me, i I?m back on here in 10 minutes you know it?s switched off again!

A while back, my asus notebook series laptop stopped recognizing the charger. The charger was working fine, so when I took it to pc world, they said that there was something wrong with the homeboard, and it’d cost more than it’s worth to fix it. So I took it to a smaller laptop repair place, and they fixed it up fine. . . For a while until it broke again. Was wondering if it’d be cheaper/easier just to get an external battery charger as it’s only the socket that the charger actually goes in that’s broken. I’ve seen a few on amazon and eBay, but none that seem to match with an asus notebook series. I have no idea how to find one, or if one for my laptop even exists, but I’d be really grateful if someone could give me any help whatsoever with this, as I am totally confused and that laptop has a lot of my work on it that I need! my son was doing homework when the pop-ups started last night. i followed the steps to one suggestion and restarted the laptop by pushing f8 to restore to a previous time. . . that did not work, the only previous time was yesterday. so now i can go only get as far as the “System Recovery Options” i tried the (start up repair) and it ran all night and did nothing. . . then tried SYSTEM restore and prompted me for a password for administrator and i don’t know it and then i clicked on the option to log in as my son but he cant remember the password either. . . i cant find the disk to do a windows complete PC restore. . . i can however get the “command prompt” to come up, but i don’t know what to do from there. . . is there anyone who could please help us!!!

Acer Aspire 5520.
After buying it everyone told me that acer really wern’t that great but it seemed okay until and few weeks ago and it constantly shuts down, by which i mean it just turns its self off when its been on after an hour or two.
Few questions. . .
If i go to Pc world to take it back, will they exchange it or will i have to have it sent for repair (i bought it in august)
Also before I have a go at them could this be caused by a virus etc on my laptop.
Help would really really be appreciated!!

Ok, every time I turn my laptop on, it will never start up, and will always go straight to something called Startup Repair (“powered by the Tech Guys”), which seems to think there is a problem starting up.

If I hit F8 and get into the boot menu first instead, no matter which option I choose it will always ignore it and go into startup repair. I tried safe mode, debugging, bootlogging, start windows normally, start windows in low-res, etc.

This has been happening since yesterday when I got a blue screen because of a graphics card driver error, nvlddmkm. sys
The blue screen occured whenever I played on 3D games.

I have an Advent 5401 with Vista home premium, bought it from PC World 10~11 months ago.

My IBM Lenovo 3000 C100 laptop has crashed and is giving the following error message when I turn it on. . .

I cannot find the Windows XP Disc that came with the laptop, i’ve been told I can use any XP disc and it does not have to be the same one that was supplied. Is this correct? will this work? will there be any issues with using another disc that has been used before on another pc becuase of the serial numbers etc. . any help grately appriciated!

Hi, recently signed with Virgin . . . I actually activated + set up my broadband using my works laptop at home and also went live with my home PC same day straight after. I took laptop to work the nxt day and all wrks fine (no IP conflicts at all, great!) . . . I take laptop home again and try to connect but see “Limited / no Concetion” . . . Check IP settings via TCP/IP propties . . all set to Obtain Auto (same)

I eventually manually config all IP & DNS settings to match the home PC configs and eventually the “Limited / no Concetion” notice goes off but i still can’t get any internet connection via the laptop . . . Have used diff cables, even plugged both into a HUB and PC still wrks great but laptop is no diff ???

Oh, I have disabled the firewall and also uninstalled any virgin programs from the laptop . . . Still had to repair the IP settings at wrk due to my changes at home and it wrks fine again at work but not at all from home . . . . .

I’m completely stumpped, please help !!!!
