I think this problem may have followed a virus that was removed through McAfee or some mailicious spyware or the like. I have also tried Internet Explorer but the result is the same. There is clearly something corrupted here that I need to repair or reload . . . . all suggestions welcome . . . . cheers!

The laptop in question is an Eee PC 900 that came with Linux, which I deleted and put Windows XP on. Up till Service pack 3.

There are the following icons in the task bar: Internet connection working (Speed: 2,7 mbps, connected for 1:18:01, packets sent like 73. 000, packets received 11. 000), then there is the little icon for the wireless, which says “Wireless connection tiscali” and Speed 54. 00 mbps, Signal strength: excellent, and Status: Connected.

So the wireless is CONNECTED and working, the tiscali box is plugged in and that connection is WORKING (packets received, etc. ). Why is the internet not working when you start a browser???
When I start mozilla firefox it says “The connection was reset; the connection to the server was reset while the page was loading”. When I start IE the page reads: “Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage; What you can try: it appears you are connected to the internet, but you might want to try to reconnect to the Internet. ”

I have tried everything, using “repair” to try and repair the connections, using just wireless, using just the direct connection, disabling the firewall, enabling the firewall with all kinds of exceptions, calling tiscali (they had no idea what the problem was). . .

If you can solve this dilemma you are a genius! Please can you suggest something I haven’t tried? I am mystified as to why 2 connections are established but the browsers themselves cannot connect to the internet.

I forgot to mention that my flatmates computer (which I am writing on) is connected perfectly.

That thing about the router/modem makes sense, but how do I disconnect a modem? Its not a seperate box, its inside the computer. Do I disconnect it by right-clicking on it somewhere, or de-install and re-install it?
Yep, I’ve got the connection name, password, WEP, everything. And it IS connected, it says so (it says “connected” and “firewalled”, but it just won’t run the internet browsers.

its my pc at work, its connected to another pc through a router and neither pc can access the net but both can send and receive emails as normal. iv tried all the usual unplugging, repair connection etc and bt are no help either, they claim the connection is working. im not sure the router could be the problem otherwise why would the email still work? any ideas??
ive tried all that, the settings are exactly the same as they were when i had internet access last week, its not just one site im accessing its any site i try, running the diagnostics test tells me it cannot access the net using the http https and ftp ports but iv checked these ports and they are working.

Hi, recently signed with Virgin . . . I actually activated + set up my broadband using my works laptop at home and also went live with my home PC same day straight after. I took laptop to work the nxt day and all wrks fine (no IP conflicts at all, great!) . . . I take laptop home again and try to connect but see “Limited / no Concetion” . . . Check IP settings via TCP/IP propties . . all set to Obtain Auto (same)

I eventually manually config all IP & DNS settings to match the home PC configs and eventually the “Limited / no Concetion” notice goes off but i still can’t get any internet connection via the laptop . . . Have used diff cables, even plugged both into a HUB and PC still wrks great but laptop is no diff ???

Oh, I have disabled the firewall and also uninstalled any virgin programs from the laptop . . . Still had to repair the IP settings at wrk due to my changes at home and it wrks fine again at work but not at all from home . . . . .

I’m completely stumpped, please help !!!!

Hey there!
At our house we have 4 computers 2 laptops and 2 computers, 3 of them are working on the internet brillinatly and never stops, but the laptop doesn’t, it’s an ACER laptop and has been working finally till about a week ago, it connects to the router but not to the internet! This is weird because the other PC’s are working! And I haven’t messed with any settings! What can I do?

Oh yh and when I pressed Diagnose and repair, it said your DNS Server may be down! But the other PC’s are working!!!!!
