I have an XP laptop, an XP net book, a Nintendo DS, a Sony PSP and an Apple iPhone all connected to my BT Home hub wireless with no problem. I also have a desktop XP PC and and PS3 connected by Ethernet to the same BT Home Hub with no problems. Unfortunately I have a Vista desktop and Netgear ReadyNAS connected to the BT Home hub by Ethernet that at times flatly refuse to acknowledge it’s existence.

7 times out of every 10 that I turn my main PC on (Vista) I cannot connect to the internet. I have NetMeter installed which tells me that my computer is uploading a small amount of data but isn’t receiving any reply. The internet connection popup in the bottom of the screen alternates between “Limited connectivity” and “No connection” every 20 or so seconds. If the PC is reset it makes no difference. If the Home hub is reset it makes no difference. It will just return to the same situation.

If you right click and repair the connection it says 1 of 3 things. . .
1. The cable is unplugged
2. Suggest automatically assign new ip address
3. Reset local adaptor

*SOMETIMES* clicking 1 of the last 2 options will make the connection work. *SOMETIMES* if I leave it alone the computer will connect on it’s own although this can take up to 15mins of the “Limited connectivity”/”No connection” cycle

All the other devices in the house will connect to the Home Hub in less than a min. It’s got to the stage where I now have to do all of my work on the Vista comp then copy it to a memory stick and transfer to the XP comp in order to email it.

I’ve phoned BT numerous times but to no avail. They say that as the other devices work the fault is with me and they won’t help.

My question is this. . .
What can cause this problem to affect only one of the computers?
How can I fix it?

Is it a dodgy network card? Cable? Home hub? or phone line?

I’m especially confused because sometimes it will connect straight away with no problem (although this is rare)

Hi, recently signed with Virgin . . . I actually activated + set up my broadband using my works laptop at home and also went live with my home PC same day straight after. I took laptop to work the nxt day and all wrks fine (no IP conflicts at all, great!) . . . I take laptop home again and try to connect but see “Limited / no Concetion” . . . Check IP settings via TCP/IP propties . . all set to Obtain Auto (same)

I eventually manually config all IP & DNS settings to match the home PC configs and eventually the “Limited / no Concetion” notice goes off but i still can’t get any internet connection via the laptop . . . Have used diff cables, even plugged both into a HUB and PC still wrks great but laptop is no diff ???

Oh, I have disabled the firewall and also uninstalled any virgin programs from the laptop . . . Still had to repair the IP settings at wrk due to my changes at home and it wrks fine again at work but not at all from home . . . . .

I’m completely stumpped, please help !!!!
