i was browsing a site and got malware alert from my anti- virus software ( avast) waring me of a possible malware virus and gave me the option to abort but after i deleted it, it gave me a message that says” file damaged, can not be repaired” can someone tell me exactly what that actually means, which file is damaged? i know i need to downoad anti malware software but am not the admin for the pc am using so can’t download the software and don’t wonna let them know abt it, help!!!!!

Hello and thanks for looking.

Im 17 and the two computers in our house are broken. My dad says that he is not going to bother buying another as the cost of repairing it would just be a waste and after all we all have laptops. The problem is though is that my laptop is prone to crashing for some reason and it’s out of warranty. Also, I enjoy gaming and cannot do it on my laptop as the graphics card is too poor and from what I have hard its extemely hard/expensive to install a new one into a laptop.

I don’t play up to date games, to be honest, the only game I really play is Counter Strike Source and that kind of quality of game so I don’t need a top of the market graphics card and computer. However I need one that will run with decent graphics with little lag and freezing so that the gameplay is smooth. I would als use the computer for general work and the internet.

We have two good LCD monitor screens and so hopefully that means that I can use one of them for the new computer but I need someone to confirm this please and this would significantly cut down on the costs?

Finally, I do not want to be spending a lot of money on it as I have limited funds at the moment. I am willing t spend up to around £400 but that would be the absoloute most and it would be great to find something around £200-£350 zone if it will do its job.

Like I said before, I dont want anything fancy, just a computer which has a good graphics card which can run games like counter strike source fine. I dont want a ‘gaming pc’ as to be gonest im not a hardcore gamer who plays the latest games.

So ideally if any computer works with any monitor, it will only be the actual tower unit bit that I need if I am correct?

So, do you have any reccommendations for this computer?

last week my netbook had to be repaired because for some reason it decided to swipe itself ( literally EVERYTHING. ) and had to reinstall windows etc. .
not sure of the reason why it did; but before that I downloaded the new MSN and iTunes.
Nothing else. . about 10 songs that i transfered into my iTunes Library and deleted from the Music folder in windows. . That was it. I downloaded iTunes on my old Pc and worked fine; but before that I heard that iTunes can sometimes mess up you’re computer. . or something? :S
So anyway the point is, laptops up and running again; kinda have to download iTunes ( for iPod ) and need msn; as the old msn doesn’t even WORK. So if I download them again; is it just going to mess up like before?

well its like an acer make. . had it for like 3 months now. . urgh and it has shitty windows XP, the like first ever one. its a load of bum; i don’t even want to use it :@!

My Phillips Gogear has frozen while I was deleting files. I tried resetting it by using a pen and did it several times for a long time but there was no result. When I plugged it into my PC the computer did not detect any Phillips Gogear opus 8GB so I could not try repairing it or updating it. What do I do now. I was attempting to overclock my PC. I went into BIOS and played around with a few of the settings, i changed the following:

Host/SRC/PCI was set to default, i changed it to the max of 333/100/33.

To be totally honest, i didn’t know enough about what i was doing. After i changed these settings, i reset my PC. After a few seconds, i realised there was no Signal Input into my monitor, and suddenly there was a strange ‘screaming’ beeping noise, that i have never heard before. I panicked and turned off the PC. A few minutes later i attempted to turn it back on. The PC itself came back on as usual, with no strange noises, but still there was no Signal Input to my monitor.

Anyone know how i can somehow reset the BIOS settings or any other way of repairing my comp?

Hi all, i am thinking on reformating my pc. it is kinda slow and i cant be botherd uninstalling and repairing. so i come up to reformat it.

I need a guide that will help me to format my machine and install Windows XP SP2 onto it.

I AM backing all of the stuff i want to keep such as projects, downloads and some installers.
Onto DVD’s. . is this wise ? i dont want to splash out on a hdd. i have a ext 40GB which is going to be partily used during back up.

I know i have to change my first boot device to CD/DVD
i just need help once i have hit any key and it starts a blue screen. they kinda intimidate me.

Also, i was reading a little and it seems i might have to install my network card, i have all my other discs, but the only Ethernet port is on the montherboard (connected not a pci thing)
will all them devices get installed when i put my Motherboard Disc into my drive?
