I want to be able to repair other peoples computers for them, and i have a laptop not a computer, so that no help as i want to repair desktops.

this morning i pressed the power button on my desktop, it flashed once (but didn’t make any of the normal whirring sounds of the fans starting up or anything) then went dead, then pressing the power button did nothing. No lights anywhere, almost as if it’s blown a fuse. Monitor amber light appears when turned on, speaker light also turns on, they are all connected to the same power source (which is also lit)

this is not an old PC, a dell, barely a year old.

what do you think the problem is?

i am not computer savy, so i shall in no way be attempting to remove the case and fix the problem myself, however simple it may be, i will need to take it somewhere to be repaired (ENGLAND) what’s best though? the individual stores? Or the big brands like PC world?

Tried switching over the power leads (used the monitors ones)

There’s a green light at the back to symbolise a power source. I press the power button, it flashes orange once, I see the fan at the back barely start to rotate, then nothing.

Only happens once, pressing the power button again equals nothing.

Also I was wrong about the speakers, their only power source is through the PC so they don’t turn on either.

Despite being just a year old it’s out of warranty, which sucks.

This happens everytime I log on. It will stay online for a short time and then I have to re-connect by clicking repair in Internet Connections page. After the third time I can stay online for as long as I Like.

My IP has no answers and its been like this for ages. I have recently had Tuneup Utilities 2008 which has helped my pc run alot smoother, but it doesn’t recognise this as a fault.

Perhaps its the wireless router? What do you think.

Hi, recently signed with Virgin . . . I actually activated + set up my broadband using my works laptop at home and also went live with my home PC same day straight after. I took laptop to work the nxt day and all wrks fine (no IP conflicts at all, great!) . . . I take laptop home again and try to connect but see “Limited / no Concetion” . . . Check IP settings via TCP/IP propties . . all set to Obtain Auto (same)

I eventually manually config all IP & DNS settings to match the home PC configs and eventually the “Limited / no Concetion” notice goes off but i still can’t get any internet connection via the laptop . . . Have used diff cables, even plugged both into a HUB and PC still wrks great but laptop is no diff ???

Oh, I have disabled the firewall and also uninstalled any virgin programs from the laptop . . . Still had to repair the IP settings at wrk due to my changes at home and it wrks fine again at work but not at all from home . . . . .

I’m completely stumpped, please help !!!!

the wiring in my desktop pc has been damaged so instead of repair have gone for a laptop is there any way to copy my files to the laptop with only the physical hdd from the desktop pc. i can still get power to the hdd.

Concerning Windows XP (WHICH SUCKS)

My brother had a virus on his pc yesterday, and Avast detected it. he clicked repair and it said it had been repaired but after that the desktop kept flicking between the icons and blackness. Is there something wrong with Windows explorer, as when the screen goes black it closes all active windows so its hard to try to do anything. Is there anyway of fixing Windows explorer, is it corupt or something. Tried to repair from the windows disk at boot, but that seems more geared to fix it if you cant boot at all, and the stupid list of functions on Security console dont make any sense to us. Any ideas? All system restore points are gone to so thats out of the question Please help.

Hi i have recently brought a Belkin F5D5000 v2000 Desktop PCI Card because my motherboard enthernet connector is malfunctioning ive installed the driver manualy and it doesnt work it comes up with error 10 this device cannot start. it does work i took the computer to a local pc repair shop and they got it to work for a while then it stoped. does anyone have this problem or knows a solution. thanks

I have an XP desktop computer which is about 7 years old now. It is still in good working condition but we have decided to upgrade to a newer system for our new office. So we want to make the old computer available for my sister to use in the old office and network it to our router as the main computer on the network. But the computer has no ethernet connection.

How would I go about getting a card so that we can create a wired connection to the router? I believe I would need an internal network card. Are these easy to install and set-up? I am a hardware beginner and have never fitted anything like that before. I have had a look on eBay and you can get them on there from people who are selling used parts.

How can I connect to the network laptop from my desktop without the password?
