okay i have hit my computer a couple of times (punch, smack etc. . . ) so recently for the past say 3 months because it kept freezing at times and it was SLOW!!! it’s a fairly modern computer (i bought it in 2007!!!), so now i have recently installed the windows 7 IN PC World and it is MUCH faster and smoother, now (how ironic) i am worried that i may have broken it but it isnt noticable. so this is how my computer runs, just have a honest guess and just say whether the computer is broke -
-once i turn it on it loads in like 20-25 seconds
-i flick through various websites in under 5-7 seconds
so would u say it need repair, even though i hit/punched it at an average/medium force ???

It has happened loads of times before, but usually my cousin comes and fixes it, but he up in oxford uni, so he cant really come down.
I turn the PC on and it goes onto the XP page with the coloured bar going across, && then it goes onto a blue screen, Like this one: http://www. technize. com/wp-content/uploads/2008/05/windows-xp-bsod. png
I’ve tried safe mode & everything, but it just goes back onto that screen. My cousin gave me a disk with XP Pro I’ve put that in and go on the repair thing, but i don’t understand the />c and stuff.
Any ideas????????

I have a second PC normally networked via a Netgear router to the first but currently unplugged in case I do have a security problem. The second PC appears to have become slower and halting when starting applications and during downloading (slower and less stable than previously).
I have attempted to go back to an earlier restore point but the comment I get upon each reboot is that it cannot restore to the chosen date and that no changes have been made to the computer. I have now gone back as far as I can (8th September 2009) but still no joy – it seems unable – or perhaps prevented in some way – from restoring to a previous date.
I have installed some new downloaded software recently, though everything was scanned with AVG prior to doing so, and I can’t help wondering whether I have some kind of virus or Trojan though none of the following find anything apart from tracking cookies etc – AVG, Spybot Search and Destroy, Adaware and Superantispyware.
Perhaps I will need to do a repair install of Windows (XP Pro) – will this wipe out all the installed software at the same time, and what exactly is the best way to perform this action?

My tower started making a grinding noise on start up. This has now stopped but I get a message on start up warning computer chip fan fail or setting too low. My pc is still under warranty so I phoned mesh for advise they advised me to start up the computer and press delete until a screen came up Phoenix – award bios cmos set up utility on this screen I was told to go into power and enter and then hardware monitor on this screen the q fan monitor was showing as disabled and I was advised to change the setting to enabled. This has stopped the error message coming up but I am worried I may still have a faulty fan and cannot understand why it would have been making a grinding noise if only the settings on the pc had mysteriously got changed. Can anyone advise if what I have been told to do is correct of if I should go back to mesh for a repair.

When I logged on today at 2. 15 am which I know is late, each screen was taking awhile to appear.
I put the question to Jeeves and a load od suggestions came up offering a free scan to speed the computer up.
So on having the scan it shows up 214 errors.
I could tick repair but I’m not sure if that removes everything I’ve downloaded, files and documents a little music and loads of personal photographs.
I’m not sure what to think when I checked what space there was available on my Acer pc it came up with 3. 22 and 17. 7 acer data. I assume with this small amount of space that my pc is possibly running down.
If this was you what would you do?
Well I’ve got rid of my pc history. I’ve cleared out my recycle bin. I am frightened silly to agree to one of these pc clean ups, just in case it takes out all of my music files. If only there was a programme that allowed you to select what to clear out from the stash of files you never see on your internet.

A couple of weeks ago I purchased a 8gb Memory for my psp on ebay, I paid £25. It took over 2 weeks to arrive. On listing it stated that Item was in and would be dispatched from uk. But it wasn’t it had been dispatched from hong kong. The memory card was a fake not a genuine sony Memory card as stated on listing. I put memory card in to my computer to see if it worked and to try to put some music on it to listen to on my psp, but as soon as I put the memory card in to the memory card slot on my pc my antivirus software started bringing up messages saying there was a virus. Before I could remove memory card the computer died and would not re boot. I Took it to a computer repair shop and they said it was in repairable. So I have had to spend out £600 on a new computer. My husband acidently put memory card in psp after this and the moment this memory card was put in psp the psp died. Luckly psp was repairable and cost me £40 to get repaired. I complained to paypal to try and get my money back for memory card but they are refusing to give my money back unless I can produce a report from a reputable company confirming that memory card is fake and was the cause of damage. I find this stupid and would not know where to go to get one of these reports. I bet it would cost as much as the amout I paid for memory card. So much for buyer protection. Does any one know where I could get such a report and how much it would cost. Also what would my legal rights be regarding sueing the person I bought memory card from for damages. I feel they should be resposible for paying the cost of a new computer as It was the item they sold me that caused the damage to my computer. Any advice on the above or waht you think I should do would be much apreciated. Thanks In advanced
I was asking for advice not rude answers. In answer to one persons response. Memory card came with a adapter so that you can put is straight plug it straight in to pc. Also my computer was absolutly fine before I put memory card in to it. I update the virus definitions every day and do at least one scan a day so know that there was defernatly no virus on it before. The messages only came up the moment I put memory card in. Also If its not the memory card how do you explain it damaging my psp too. When my husband put memory card in my psp, screen froze then it switched off and would not switch back on. On final this my in repairable I mean they tried every thing even re installing windows but it would not let them computer kept freezing and switching off.
I belive there must have been a virus on memory card and that as coon as I put memory card in computer it infected it. This is the olny reason I can think of as to why it ruined my ps and damages psp.
I ment to say I do have the sellers contact details including address and telephone number. I also have a email from them admitting liability and appologising for problems caused. They have offerd to refund my money for memory card but only if I send memory ard back. Although memory card is no use to me Im not sure whether to send it back as, one there in no garantee that im going to get my money back and secondly its the only evidence I have.
Would the fact I have a email from them admitting liability and the fact that I have all there contact detail help me regarding my legal rights

I want to find every single file on my computer, and what they are for/about. (downloaded and already there)
I am not one for downloading software/games/videos. I download music, and maybe stuff i think is good at the time. But apart from the Internet and web building tools (notepad and some other bits and bobs). I never actually use the stuff.
I am starting a computer course now (technical stuff/building/repairing). I just want my computer to last a few more months, while i do the course. After that i will upgrade. I just need to free up some space and improve the Comp’s performance for that amount of time.
Also, i was told if i add RAM, i may not need to upgrade. Is that right. (i hope to build and repair computers in the future, but will also be doing web design. I have completed that part of the course, but not sure if my comp is up to the job, so don’t want to start that yet. ) Comp is almost 3 years old. HP – Compaq Pavilion a605x Desktop/PC. I hope this makes sense
Thank you

A I’m working on a computer that won’t boot past the windows memory checking screen.
I can’t open system restore or repair, I know the issue is windows or HD data, but I’m afraid the idiotic owners didn’t use an antivirus (so I assume its a virus fucking up the OS boot).
I’m afraid (again) the idiot who owns the pc is using an unbootable copy of windows xp (don’t badger me, I’m just payed to fix it). Therefore I can’t use the xp cd to repair or restore the OS.
I intend to create an ubuntu boot disk to use linux to attempt and get rid of (the suspected malware), but if that doesn’t work I don’t know how to proceed without a windows cd.
I suppose I could format the disk then tell them to buy a REAL copy of Xp, but I’m afraid I’ve never formatted a HD before.
Its a home built computer (varied equipment and no warranty) with several different partitions.
Can you explain how to format the disk (so they can buy a REAL copy of XP? and could you give me any advice of things I could try?
Much appreciated

We have a Packard Bell PC which is 3 months old. My son was playing a game and it suddenly froze, so I switched it off at the mains and tried to reboot, but nothing happened.
The fan goes on, and the light on the front of the PC, but the terminal stays completely blank – no boot screen or anything.
We know it’s not the terminal cos I’ve checked that with another PC. Also, it’s impossible to open the DVD drive to get the disc out.
It’s going to the repair shop on Tuesday, but does anyone have a clue what may have happened. Also, any ideas as to how we could get the disc out.
Cheers.
(PS, comp has never been online, so can’t be a virus).
Can’t open the disc drive to insert the boot disc
