I bought a computer from a gaming pcs, supplier. Its recently broken down, according to the company its motherboard may have busted.
I cant afford to get it repaired so i just want to sell it on ebay, but i have no idea where to start so was wondering what any of you guys thought i could get for it.
I Paid £450. 00 and that included a LCD screen.

Im selling it without the hard drive, but everything else is intact, it just has a motherboard problem.

-OCZ 1GB PC5300 667Mhz RAM
-160GB SATA 7200 RPM HDD,

-NVIDIA 7300GS 512MB Turbo Cache PCI EXPRESS Graphics,
-Windows Xp Home Edition.

It is used but the case is in a very good condition and i have the Windows Home edition cd and The NVIDIA Grapics card drivers.
As an average price, how much could one get for this second hand and with the problem ive also noted. ?
I just want a rough price of what i could get for what i have mentioned. I thought that this could be useful for someone who was on their way to building a computer. I know it probably wont be much but was hoping a little bit more than $25. .
Is it easy to add a new motherboard?

my computer had problems someone we know repaired it and he told me to download something ( Don’t remember )

Hello and thanks for looking.

Im 17 and the two computers in our house are broken. My dad says that he is not going to bother buying another as the cost of repairing it would just be a waste and after all we all have laptops. The problem is though is that my laptop is prone to crashing for some reason and it’s out of warranty. Also, I enjoy gaming and cannot do it on my laptop as the graphics card is too poor and from what I have hard its extemely hard/expensive to install a new one into a laptop.

I don’t play up to date games, to be honest, the only game I really play is Counter Strike Source and that kind of quality of game so I don’t need a top of the market graphics card and computer. However I need one that will run with decent graphics with little lag and freezing so that the gameplay is smooth. I would als use the computer for general work and the internet.

We have two good LCD monitor screens and so hopefully that means that I can use one of them for the new computer but I need someone to confirm this please and this would significantly cut down on the costs?

Finally, I do not want to be spending a lot of money on it as I have limited funds at the moment. I am willing t spend up to around £400 but that would be the absoloute most and it would be great to find something around £200-£350 zone if it will do its job.

Like I said before, I dont want anything fancy, just a computer which has a good graphics card which can run games like counter strike source fine. I dont want a ‘gaming pc’ as to be gonest im not a hardcore gamer who plays the latest games.

So ideally if any computer works with any monitor, it will only be the actual tower unit bit that I need if I am correct?

So, do you have any reccommendations for this computer?

Well on sunday it randomly started disconnecting me from the internet every now and again. I came back on monday and it was every 5 minutes until it just wouldnt reconnect to the internet at all. It even got sent to the shop to be repaired and worked fine there. Ive ran out of ideas. before sunday I got an excellent signal all the time now it wont stay connected if it even connects at all. I have a built in wireless on my pc and connected to BT homehub which I have always used.
any ideas?
how could the video card effect the wireless
the guy in the shop found a virus. took it off installed all up to date virus stuff and its still happening
The rest of my family get onto it fine. the wireless laptop and two pcs

My PC won’t switch on. I have checked the power cable and it is okay (works in other devices). It is as if no power is getting to the PC. Has the on/off button broken or what else could it be? (There are no viruses, etc on the computer). If it is the on/off button, is this expensive to get repaired? Any assistance you can give would be greatly appreciated.
Have checked wall sockets etc. As I say, the same power cable will work in other devices (ie LCD TV). I also use a power surge protector.

this morning i pressed the power button on my desktop, it flashed once (but didn’t make any of the normal whirring sounds of the fans starting up or anything) then went dead, then pressing the power button did nothing. No lights anywhere, almost as if it’s blown a fuse. Monitor amber light appears when turned on, speaker light also turns on, they are all connected to the same power source (which is also lit)

this is not an old PC, a dell, barely a year old.

what do you think the problem is?

i am not computer savy, so i shall in no way be attempting to remove the case and fix the problem myself, however simple it may be, i will need to take it somewhere to be repaired (ENGLAND) what’s best though? the individual stores? Or the big brands like PC world?
UPDATE:

Tried switching over the power leads (used the monitors ones)

There’s a green light at the back to symbolise a power source. I press the power button, it flashes orange once, I see the fan at the back barely start to rotate, then nothing.

Only happens once, pressing the power button again equals nothing.

Also I was wrong about the speakers, their only power source is through the PC so they don’t turn on either.

Despite being just a year old it’s out of warranty, which sucks.

I have an HP Pavilion PC and its about 3 years old. I have never had any problems with it until now. While I was loading a game I play all the time it wouldn’t let me load. So I decided to restart. made no difference so I shut the computer down and left it for a while.

Now when I try to turn it on the hard drive (or at least that’s what it sounds like is making a funny *click click beep* sound, like its trying to load but cant. . . my windows xp loading screen comes up. . . then nothing. I have no idea what wrong with it.

Thanks Nicky, I think you’re probably right. I do have backups after a bad experience with a virus, but unfortunately not of everything that I had! but never mind. I will give it a little tap and see if this helps, but otherwise it’ll have to go to PC world. Boo

My computer will not read any discs. It has 2 disc drives and they are not the problem. I have used another drive from a spare PC and am still getting the problem. I have also very recently wiped this computer so I doubt it is a software problem. Does anyone have any idea what the problem could be? My friend has a memory stick on which he has his college work stored. He can download onto my pc, do more work here and save it to his memory stick, then OK on college PCs no probs. But when he plugs it in to his PC or his laptop at home the work is there but the files wont open. We guess it is a prob with his laptop which is new and his PC which has just been repaired.
