The smallest one I have seen so far (it was a prototype), was mounted on a ship. Bottom line is the energy sources required are not viable for deployment. Thus the over all footprint is so large that targeting with them is just not viable.
The Geneva Convention prevents the use of weapons such as lasers, because their purpose is to maim not kill.

If you mean lasers they are. . . there are planes and ships being tested now. They have a massive range, and kill at the speed of light before the target can move and multiple enemy missiles can be destroyed in quick succession before they reach you.
The future of most weapons are lasers, the current problem is it requires a large aircraft for the power needed.
one has been put on a 747, however they are still in development, mainly because of the cost and the fact that they are cutting edge technology.
